Parish Legislative Action Committee Chairman
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS
Must:
 |
Be a registered member of the
parish, in good standing. |
 |
Display an interest in, or
willingness to learn about, Church moral teachings regarding life and
death issues. |
 |
Show an interest in, or
willingness to learn about, local, state, and national legislative issues
that should be influenced by Church moral teachings. |
 |
Cooperate with parish and
diocesan Respect Life chairpersons to promote the Consistent Ethic of
Life. |
DUTIES
General
 |
Support and work with the
Parish Respect Life Representative. |
 |
Attend scheduled parish,
deanery, and diocesan Respect Life meetings and events. |
 |
Participate in the annual
diocesan Respect Life Legislative Workshop, when scheduled. |
Prayer
 |
Ask God's blessings on all
efforts to promote the sanctity of life, from conception to natural death. |
 |
Pray for those holding
political offices and those seeking political offices. |
 |
Promote the need for, and power
of, prayer to attain every Respect Life goal. |
Education
 |
Educate parish community about
Church teachings on life and death. |
 |
Educate parish community about
pro-life perspectives, related to political issues. |
Action
 |
Interact with parishioners
interested in pro-life activities, generally, or legislative issues,
particularly. |
 |
Interact with parish
organizations, such as Council of Catholic Women and Knights of Columbus,
to obtain their support of pro-life activities and legislative action. |
 |
Set up, in cooperation with the
Parish Respect Life Representative, an effective parish-wide legislative
telephone/e-mail tree and procedures for activating the tree. |
 |
Distribute to phone/e-mail tree
members requests for action (calls, letters, faxes, e-mails) on state,
national, and occasionally, local legislation, that is before governing
bodies. (All requests come through the Diocesan
Respect Life Office.) |
 |
Take responsibility, at the
request of the diocese, for participation in other legislative-oriented
projects, such as postcard campaigns, letter-writhing forums, etc. |
